Michael Corris A member of the New-York based conceptual art group Art & Language of the 1970s, which included Mel Ramsden, Joseph Kosuth and Sara Charlesworth among others, Michael Corris today, in addition to being a practicing conceptual artist, art critic, and art historian, is a Personal Chair in Research and head of Art and Photography at Newport School of Art, Media and Design, University of Wales, Newport. Exhibited internationally, including the 1976 Venice Biennale, Corris's work graces the permanent collection of, among other institutions, the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the J. P. Getty Museum in Los Angeles. Since his immigration to the United Kingdom in 1990 to take up his current full-time teaching post, Corris has concentrated on writing and researching late-modern and contemporary art. His art criticism has been published extensively in such magazines as Art Monthly, Artforum, FlashArt, Art History, art+text and Mute, and in numerous exhibition catalogues. |
