Renee Green's installations are complex examinations of overlapping themes that are usually related to the context of the exhibition. What she offers to the viewer, in video, text, and sound elements, is the results of her intense research into historical and cultural topics. Green’s work has been exhibited widely both nationally and internationally. Some of these include solo exhibitions at Portikus, Frankfurt; Centro Cultural de Belem, Lisbon; Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati; Vienna Secession, Stichting de Appel, Amsterdam; and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. Other venues include Documenta XI, Johannesburg Biennial, Whitney Museum of American Art Biennial, Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago), Institute of Contemporary Art (London), Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris), and MACBA (Barcelona). She was a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna from 1997 to 2002, and Director of Studios at the Independent Study Program, Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, from 1996 to 1997, and in 2002 was appointed distinguished artist/professor in the Department of Art at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
