Pedro Lasch was born and raised in Mexico City, and has since lived in New York and Durham, NC, where he is currently Assistant Professor of the Practice in the Department of Art, Art History, and Visual Studies at Duke University. Lasch's role as an artist, educator, and cultural producer can be understood as a cohesive whole, which develops within specific social situations and exists within and outside of conventional art settings. A preoccupation with the theory and practice of a socially engaged art, which is rooted in daily exchanges, has led him to the formulation of an aesthetics based on public interventions, social interactions, games, and temporal rearrangements. In addition to his individual work in a wide range of disciplines including drawing, painting, video, installation and performance, he leads on-going projects with immigrant communities and art collectives, such as 16 Beaver Group. His work has been published and shown internationally at both alternative and mainstream institutions, such as Sean Kelly Gallery, The Baltimore Museum of Art, The Queens Museum of Art, The Walker Art Center, MASS MoCA, The Snite Museum (U.S.A), Baltic: The Centre for Contemporary Art and The Royal College of Art (England), ACC Gallery & Stiftung Federkiel (Germany), The Contemporary Art Center (Lithuania), Casa Lamm (Mexico), The Singapore Art Museum (Singapore), and The Gwangju Biennial (South Korea), among others.
