Damir Niksic is a Chicago-based conceptual artist from Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina whose work in video, installation, and performance often addresses political and cultural issues that can be traced along the lines that separate Eastern Europe from the West. His work has been exhibited in a variety of venues throughout Europe and the United States including the National Gallery of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sarajevo; Ars Aevi Museum of Contemporary Art, New Temple Gallery, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina; National Museum of Montenegro, Cetinje, Montenegro; Serbia-Center for Cultural Decontamination; Pitt’s Center for Russian and East European Studies, University of Pittsburgh; and The Franke Institute for the Humanities, Center for East European and Russian/Eurasian Studies, University of Chicago. In 2003 he was included in the 50th Venice Biennial: Dreams and Conflicts: The Dictatorship of the Viewer. He is currently a Visiting Professor in the department of Art Theory and Practice, Northwestern University.
