Mai-Thu Perret's ongoing project "The Crystal Frontier," begun in 1999, is about a fictional all-female commune in New Mexico whose inhabitants raise chickens, cows, horses, and rabbits. Informed by this fiction, she has set to creating curious objects that could be understood as artifacts, prototypes, props, or tools retrieved from The Crystal Frontier.
